90210 Episode Recap: "Off the Rails" Season 1, Episode 17

This episode of 90210, directed by Mr. Brandon Walsh himself, Jason Priestley, follows a very distraught Silver who goes missing after her video debacle. This, in turn, leaves her big sis Kelly and her teacher Mr. Matthew frantically searching high and low for her while Adrianna and Navid babysit for Kelly's son, Sammy.

"Off the Rails" picks ups where we left off last week when Silver broke into Ryan's apartment and freaked out. He manages to calm her down, but when he leaves to fetch a bandage for her bloody hand, she makes a run for it. Word spreads like wildfire. Ryan tells Kelly, Dixon tells his parents, Debbie calls Annie, and so on and so forth. The jumping between all the conversations (well shot, Priestley) comes to an end, and everyone is off to search.

Dixon, who heads back to his house, gets a cryptic call from Silver. As soon as she goes into her psycho "you're all I need" mode, he hangs up on her. His parents return to find him playing video games, and not even giving "drama queen" Silver's ramblings about going back to "the source" a second thought. This doesn't sit well with Debbie who thinks her son has become a cold, callous, sex maniac, and that it's all L.A.'s fault.

Annie and Ethan go to search the school for Silver and find Naomi doing the same thing. Naomi and Annie break into Silver's locker, but the only thing that catches their eye is a picture of Silver and Naomi from when they are little. The two share a heartfelt moment when Naomi recalls the story behind it.

Ryan, who offers to drive Kelly around, brings her to Mama Taylor's house because Kelly thinks maybe that's what Silver means by "the source." Unfortunately, all she finds is her erratic mom and her sketchy new boyfriend, Dirk. After storming out of her mom's house, Kelly gets a disturbing call from the police that Silver's car has be found abandoned in a parking lot downtown. Kelly begins to blame herself, and big-hearted Ryan swoops in to comfort her. Only problem is that she's not having it because of what a jerk he's been since he slept with Brenda. To her, his only purpose is to play chauffeur.

During all of this, Ade and Navid are tasked with watching Sammy while everyone is looking for Silver. A very preggers Ade is very freaked-out by the idea, and later tells Navid of her plan to put her baby up for adoption. (We hear Brenda's in the market!) But Ade gets some peace of mind when she soothes Sammy's crying by reading to him.

We find Silver at the train station looking to hop on the next train to Kansas (the "source" of Dixon). An odd man takes an interest in Silver's trip and questions her about it. The flood gates open, and Silver begins babbling about chemical reactions and some other nonsensical thoughts. She buys her ticket and the man follows her. Cue eerie music. When Silver falls asleep, we see the man sneak over and steal what looks like a credit card out of her wallet. But after a commercial break filled with suspense, we learn he was just trying to get her ID and phone to let someone know how erratic she's being. Can't say you see concerned citizens like that every day.

Back at the school, Annie loses it with Ethan again because she thinks they have to work on their relationship some more. He asks her why, and her reason is because she chose dating Ethan over being friends with Naomi. Did they forget their friend has gone AWOL after having a nervous breakdown?

At the station, Silver awakes to learn she overslept and her train is leaving. She runs after it and into the tracks when Harry, Debbie and a still-not-amused Dixon arrive. Harry tries to talk her off the tracks, but something she says makes Dixon perk up. She runs across the tracks and Dixon tries to appeal to her. He tells her he understands what she's going through because his birth mom went through the same ups and downs. He wants to help her get help for what he now knows is bipolar disorder.

After a tearful reunion between Kelly and Silver, we find out Silver will be OK (hopefully in time for prom), Annie and Naomi are gossiping like old friends, Ade and Navid are talking about what a great team they are with kids and Kelly and Ryan are apologizing to each other at the hospital. Oh, and despite the fact Debbie isn't a fan of California, she's OK with living there because they have gluten-free bread.

What did you think of tonight's episode? Did you like the Silver storyline and how it wrapped up? What do you think will happen with Ade and the baby now that Navid is in the picture? And do you care at all that Annie and Naomi are friends now?
