90210 Episode Recap: "Hollywood Forever" Season 1, Episode 6

In this week's episode of 90210, a new girl starts her first week at West Bev, Ethan and Annie get mighty cozy with one another and Adrianna finds herself in over her head. But one of the most notable things about the episode is that it was, for the first time, solely centered on the new 9-0 generation without relying on the crutches of past alum.

Just like in every other high-school based show in history, this series decided to follow suit and incorporate the "let's assign the kids to a fake baby to care for in Health class" storyline. Annie and Ethan are assigned to be the married couple with Ethan as a stay-at-home dad, (while Navid and his partner were tasked with playing the same sex parents). Considering how much sexual tension there is between Annie and Ethan these days, the two have zero qualms about their assignment – even though the doll is freakishly-real looking.

Naomi comes across Adrianna putting drops in her eyes (must be allergies from all that weather change in Beverly Hills) and talks to her about the rumors she's been hearing. Ade get's all sorts of defensive, but when Naomi talks about how her life is in shambles and needs support, the two make up and partake in some bizarre necklace swapping ritual right before Adrianna heads off to read for a movie role. She beats Annie out for the part, but goes MIA when she was suppose to meet with Naomi. But, of course, Dina Lohan Adrianna's mom tells Naomi her daughter must be out celebrating and lost track of time. If by celebrating she meant blowing lines off a dashboard, then yes, she is correct.

Meanwhile new girl Kim has started her first week at West Bev, and she is super feisty when it comes to doling out the sass. So much that Mr. Matthews ends up giving her a detention where the two have a battle of wits (or are just plain flirting depending on how you look at it).

Silver is trying to rally everyone for a screening of Psycho at the Hollywood Cemetery for her half birthday celebration, including her teacher Ryan. Um…he may be the "hip" teach, but I still find inviting your teacher (let alone sister's ex) and his new lady friend a bit odd. But he's not the only adult crashing the party. Apparently Dixon's parents will be in attendance keeping a watchful eye on their son because he broke curfew and had them ready to call in the National Guard when he came home at an unbelievably late hour of 11:30 at night *gasp.* Even Grandma Tabitha (with Pepto in one hand and bourbon in the other) couldn't calm them down.

Beyond the student drama, Harry is dealing with a bit of his own after Naomi's mom tells him she wants to hire a P.I. to track down their son. When Harry brings it up to his wife, she supports his decision to go through the agency to do so, but you can tell she's not fairing well with the thought of finding him (And rightfully so. Why she hasn't flipped her you know what yet over the whole thing is beyond me). Harry finds out Tracy already hired a P.I., and when he tries to support his former lover by giving her a hug, she takes the opportunity to dive in for a kiss. What a homewrecker!

Back at school, Naomi finds Adrianna has been doing coke (which apparently she got her into in the first place) and when the drug sniffing hounds do a sweep of the lockers (is that normal these days?), Naomi takes the bullet for Ade and runs to flush the drugs. Too bad for Naomi, she did it in quite possibly the most conspicuous fashion possible and was caught. Naomi is taken away in cuffs, but despite her father's efforts, it turns out daddy dearest won't be able to cut a check to get her off for this one. Ethan and Annie (with creepy baby in tow) try to talk to Adrianna to fess up, but it isn't until Naomi confronts to her that she agrees to tell the truth to the lawyer after explaining it to her mom. Just when she's about to spill the truth, Adrianna's mother thanks her for saving the house by landing the movie role and tells her they only had $300 in the bank. Obviously, Adrianna refuses to let her whacked-out stage mom down and stands Naomi up at the lawyer's office.

At the cemetery screening, Ryan shows up with an actress he met online (better known as "the herpes chick"), but he isn't the only one who realizes she's a complete and total idiot. New girl Kim and Ryan partake in a bit more playful banter about her, but Ryan makes it clear that their relationship will only be student-teacher (suuuure it will, Ryan). Annie and Ethan almost kiss, but it are interrupted and thus putting off the two sealing the deal for yet another episode. Meanwhile, we learn a big secret about Kim through her conversation with Harry. I have to say, I had zero clue she was an undercover cop on a drug bust case.

The big finish comes when Naomi calls Adrianna's cell, and while Naomi's ripping her friend a new one on her voicemail for leaving her high and dry, the scene flashes between Naomi's bitching and Adrianna with no pulse after OD'ing.

Now the big question – with zero storylines having to do with the original series and/or any of it's characters, how do you think the show faired without it's training wheels? Silver and Dixon's storyline was kinda meh to me, as was the cliché fake baby for Health class. Despite Naomi's facial expressions and Adrianna's overly exaggerated attempt at being strung out, that storyline moved at the best pace for me. All in all, it wasn't my favorite episode, but then again, not my least favorite either.

What was your take on this week's episode? Think Adrianna will pull through? Any predictions on if/when Annie and Ethan will finally just become a couple already? Think Kim and Ryan will actually hook up despite that she's a "student" (or at least as far as he knows)? And did anyone else find Tabitha's explanation of swimming naked because she likes the way it feels when the "water glides off her ass" hysterical? Discuss! show less
