Ratings: Which of 11 Finales Delivered the Biggest Bang?

Grey's Anatomy

Thursday's ratings rundown:

8 pm/ET
Survivor topped the hour with an audience of 12 million total viewers, on par with last week. Bones' surreal season-ender scored 8.7 mil, up a tick. Ugly Betty dropped 9 percent to claim third with 6.83 mil.

While NBC's Earl (4.8 mil) wrapped up its season with a 370K gain, Parks & Recreation (4.25 mil) concluded its freshman run with another (8 percent) drop. Smallville saw 3.16 mil (down 180 thou) pull up a chair for the [cough] "epic" clash.

9 pm
Grey's Anatomy's two-hour, two-jaw-dropper season finale drew 16.35 million viewers — marking the serial's largest audience since the Sept. 25 opener and a week-to-week gain of a mil. CSI's finale followed with 14.42 mil.

Trailing the Hell's Kitchen closer (7.4 mil), NBC's The Office welcomed 6.72 mil to the company picnic (down 13 percent), while 30 Rock (5.66 mil) dropped 8 percent.

Supernatural's Dean and Sam had 2.9 mil (up 100K) at their side as they braved an apocalyptic finale

10 pm
Placing second behind Grey's, CSI: NY's wacky little Thursday season-ender copped 12.84 mil, up 600 thou from its Wednesday outing. Facing outrageously stiff competition, NBC's Southland plummeted 29 percent, to 4.64 mil.

30 Rock

Bones
8 pm/ET Fox
There's been a lot of buzz about Brennan and Booth having sex this season, but after his brain surgery last week, will it happen in his hospital bed? That remains to be seen, though there are plenty of other reasons to tune in to tonight's fourth-season finale, including the return of Zack (Eric Millegan) and appearances by Brennan's dad (Ryan O'Neal), Booth's brother (Brendan Fehr) and, last but not least, Mötley Crüe, who just happen to be playing at a nightclub that's the scene of a murder.

30 Rock Episode Recap: "The Natural Order"

This week on NBC's 30 Rock, Liz and Tracy experimented with equality in the workplace, Jack's investigation of his mother's boyfriend led to a startling revelation and Jenna became a grandmother. Sort of. On with the recap!

Wow, between cable TV snafus, vacations and covering the Grey's-yard shift last week, it feels like the last time I recapped the Rock, Rachel Dratch was ... read more

30 Rock

My Name Is Earl
8 pm/ET NBC
A Rivera runs through it when the sitcom kicks off a two-part episode tonight. In Part 1, Geraldo Rivera guest stars as a journalist whose news show, Inside Probe, infiltrates Camden to investigate the mysterious disappearance of Crab Shack owner Ernie Belcher. Sure, it takes a good eight years for the segment to finally air, but as the Camden crew settles in to view it, it becomes all too obvious that Earl and Randy are looking like prime suspects. NASCAR racer Michael Waltrip revs up for a guest-star turn.

30 Rock Episode Recap: "The Ones"

30 Rock Episode Recap: "Jackie Jormp-Jomp"

On Thursday's 30 Rock, Liz explores the world outside of TGS and finds a group of ladies who lunch —and punch. Bones

MLB Baseball
12:30 pm/ET MLB
Sound the trumpets, release the doves, and be in awe as the new Yankee Stadium opens its doors for the Bronx Bombers' long-awaited home opener. Alongside analysts Jim Kaat and Harold Reynolds, MLB Network reintroduces none other than 19-time Emmy winner Bob Costas for his first play-by-play since the 2000 ALCS, played across the street in what was The House That Ruth Built. That was the last World Championship season for the Yanks, so maybe Costas is the cosmic influence Joe Girardi's bunch needs to find October happiness. The Blue Jays and Twins play in the network's regular Thursday Night Baseball game.

30 Rock Episode Recap: "Cutbacks"

On Thursday's 30 Rock, it's the 50th episode of TGS with Tracy Jordan — hooray! — and to celebrate, parent company Sheinhardt Wigs announces its first quarterly loss since the Civil War, so it's time for cutbacks — the opposite of hooray! "The days of wild Coke parties are over," Jack tells Liz, and yes, he does mean the soda. Jack even had to fire his devoted assistant Jonathan (the very funny Maulik Pancholy), who greets the news by crooning Jack a few farewell verses of "Without You." (warning: disturbing YouTube link). Hilariously, Kenneth is reassigned to replace him. "I feel like I'm in The Pelican Brief," he enthuses (which becomes the night's recurring arbitrary film reference since it's on everyone's mind because Showtime is running it a lot lately). read more
