David Beckham could return to the soccer field tomorrow night. The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder, who sprained his right knee in an Aug. 29 game, has started training again and the buzz is positive that he may play some portion of a critical match Thursday at home against the New York Red Bulls (Oct. 18, 11 pm/ET, ESPN2).

Galaxy head coach Frank Yallop is cautiously optimistic. "We're not going to force him in there," Yallop said of the English star. "It would be nice to get him on the field at some point because he's such a good player."

After struggling for much of the year, the Galaxy have won their last five games and have moved into playoff contention. The Galaxy will conclude their regular season on Sunday against the Chicago Fire.

In other soccer news, the United States men's national team plays Switzerland this afternoon in Basel (2:30 pm/ET, Fox Soccer Channel and Galavision). Also, Germany and Canada are the last two countries in the running to host the 2011 Women's World Cup, following the withdrawal of Peru on Tuesday. FIFA, the sport's world governing body, will announce the winning host on Oct. 30.

UPDATE: Becks is likely to play tonight, though he won't be a starter. Said Galaxy coach Frank Yallop: "David has trained with the club all week and he will be available for selection on Thursday night."
