My Big Year | Best of Year 2007

My Big Year
These are just a few TV stars coming off of one of their biggest years ever. The new issue of TV Guide heralds these and many, many more, including Katherine Heigl, Tyler Perry, Jorja Fox and cover gal Kate Walsh. Look for that year-end celebration on newsstands.
Zac Efron, High School Musical 2, Hairspray
As jock Troy Bolton in Disney Channel's High School Musical 2, Zac Efron helped pull in 17.2 million viewers for the August premiere, making it the most-watched basic cable telecast ever. Since then, HSM 2 has been seen by 88 million worldwide and has sold 4.3 million soundtracks. Efron's face graces everything from lunch boxes to pillowcases. Last fall, the Zac attack hit the big screen with Hairspray. All this before his 20th birthday.

TV Guide: Are you nervous about being labeled a teen idol?
Zac Efron: Nervous? No. I'm grateful! I've got great fans. There's no group of people more excited about movies than teenagers.

TV Guide: You might star in a remake of Footloose. Does dancing come easily?
Zac Efron:The dancing's always tough to learn. I can end up looking all right. But I'm not going to go on So You Think You Can Dance and expect to be brilliant.
Zachary Quinto — Heroes, J.J. Abrams' untitled Star Trek film
Last year, Zachary Quinto was so deeply discouraged about his career prospects that he nearly quit the biz. Then miracles happened. Heroes creator Tim Kring hired him as a recurring villain — the sardonic, brain-snatching Sylar — and the actor soon found himself with a rabid fan following and a contract. J.J. Abrams then handed him the plum role of young Spock in the next Star Trek movie. "Suddenly my struggles gave way to something rewarding, impactful and exciting," Quinto says. "The greatest gift from this journey is that I never take anything for granted."
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer
Discussing the show's success and her very big 2007, the actress says, "I don't know how we're going to top this year, I tell ya. I think it's been an amazing season. We gained like a million viewers, which is really unheard of in your third season. The whole thing is a phenomenon. [Series creator James Duff] keeps saying, 'We have to make it better. We have to make it better.' And that's what I love about him.
The Dec. 17 issue of TV Guide offers more end-of-year revelry, including a revealing interview with Kate Walsh and a recap of the juiciest Watercooler moments.

On TV Guide Network: Watercooler recaps January’s big premieres (airs Jan. 7), Reality Chat previews the new reality shows (Jan. 8) and Reality Chat: Idol Wrap looks at American Idol's new season (Jan. 11).
