Dear Soaps, What is with Bobbie...

Dear Soaps,

What is with Bobbie on GH? It seems as if the show is portraying (and dressing) her as if she were a younger lady than she is. No one is arguing that Jackie Zeman (Bobbie) isn't an attractive actress, but why don't TPTB have her act (and dress) more her age? It is really bothering me!
— JL

Dear JL,
Good point! I have no clue why Bobbie dresses and acts like a promiscuous teenager, but she's not the only ABC heroine with that disorder: Erica Kane (AMC) also acts 30 years younger than she is! Seriously, do TPTB think that we want to see 50-ish women parade around in skimpy outfits with their libidos out of control? I think not! Also, do women ages 18 to 49 want to see gals of a certain age parading around like hookers? I think not! Hey, ABC: Why can't these gals act their age?

Dear Soaps,

How many actors have played Lucky on GH?
— Sherrif

Dear Sherrif,
Just two: Jonathan Jackson and now Jacob Young.

Dear Soaps, In your latest chat...

Dear Soaps,

In your latest chat you stated that GL's Lizzie should die because it would be a good thing "story-wise," and you joked that she could donate her tear ducts to Susan. Both of these statements baffled me; can you please explain what you meant?
— Trip

Dear Trip,
Lizzie's death would have major repercussions for Phillip, Beth, Alan, Lillian, Susan, Jim, Rick and Harley, and the fallout could propel storylines — especially under Claire Labine's pen — for years. Also, the tear-duct crack is a parody of the B.J./Maxie heart-transplant story Labine wrote for GH.

Dear Soaps, Why are the men on...

Dear Soaps,

Why are the men on Passions portrayed as such buffoons? Ethan, Sam, Julian and Miguel are all as dumb as monkeys! Why can't Reilly write intelligent stuff for men?
— Mike

Dear Mike,
Hey, I always thought monkeys were rather intelligent, but what do I know? Seriously, Chad and Luis are portrayed as relatively intelligent guys; isn't that enough? In fact, Chad, who always speaks his mind, is one of my favorite characters on soaps.

Dear Soaps, Regarding a casting...

Dear Soaps,

Regarding a casting item in last week's Soaps News, in which you said: "Remember the Harley (Guiding Light) fiasco last time?" Mr. Reiner, there would have been no fiasco if you hadn't begun one.
— Faye

Dear Faye,
Hey, I'm not the one who put out a casting call for a character clearly named Harley Davidson Cooper for the express purpose of replacing actress Beth Ehlers or scaring her into re-signing; that honor belongs to TPTB at GL and Procter & Gamble.

Dear Soaps, You yourself said...

Dear Soaps,

You yourself said long ago that Claire Labine hated the corporate environment at soaps today. Why do you think she changed her mind and agreed to take over GL? Can we really expect P&G to allow her to do her own thing?
— Mike

Dear Mike,
I honestly hope P&G, CBS and executive producer Paul Rauch allow the Labines to craft their stories without the traditional interference, or the trouble the Labines ran into at OLTL. I suspect Claire's honeymoon period will be a long one, as even Rauch told me that he's excited about her arrival. However, Claire has never been known as a Nielsens wizard, despite her extraordinarly rich stories. I hope CBS and P&G's quest for higher ratings don't lead them to cuckold the poor woman.

Dear Soaps, I just read that...

Dear Soaps,

I just read that the character Matt Clark is returning to Y&R. Wasn't Nick jailed for killing Matt? I remember that Amy shot Matt, and I could have sworn that he died. Please refresh my memory.
— Crisanne

Dear Crisanne,
Nick was wrongly imprisoned for Matt's attempted murder; when Matt saw that the truth was about to be revealed — he raped Amy — he packed his bags and hightailed it out of Genoa City. Third Watch hunk Eddie Cibrian played Matt. (MJM)

Dear Soaps, I used to watch Loving...

Dear Soaps,

I used to watch Loving and was curious about how the writers finally wrapped up the series?
— Hogpie

Dear Hogpie,
Gwyneth Alden went psycho because she couldn't deal with daughter Trisha's rejection (Trisha had amnesia and pretty much dissed her friends and family in Corinth); to that end, Gwyn killed several of her loved ones (and herself) rather than see them suffer due to Trisha's callous attitude. The survivors wisely decided to ditch Corinth and move to SoHo in New York to start a new life. Kudos to Christine Tudor for her unforgettable turn as Gwyneth.

Dear Soaps, Now that Saundra...

Dear Soaps,

Now that Saundra Santiago has been axed as GL's Carmen, what do you think about her being cast as Dorian on OLTL? Any other ideas where she might land?
— Jill

Dear Jill,
I think Santiago is too ethnic to play Dorian, and she doesn't have the acting chops to compete with Slezak and Smith! I'd rather see her as Carlotta's sister, or maybe Pilar's sister on Passions.

Dear Soaps, On The Young and...

Dear Soaps,

On The Young and the Restless, how did Jill's father, William Foster, die?
— Lindsey

Dear Lindsey,
In 1976, Bill Foster, battling lung cancer and emphysema, was put on a respirator. He begged his wife, Liz, to end his suffering — and she did. Bill and Liz's son Snapper was suspected of pulling the plug, but a lack of evidence led to the case's dismissal (Michael J. Maloney)
