If you haven't set your VCR yet, now's the time to do so. Steve Burton's return to General Hospital is just one week away. On Aug. 25, Burton strolls back into town in the role that won him the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1999 and an adoring legion of fans. Jason Morgan's presence is certain to stir up emotions for people throughout Port Charles. The character skipped town when Burton left the show in January, but with so many loose ends to tie up, it seemed a return would be inevitable.
Burton has finished filming the premiere episode of his NBC television series, Semper Fi. In the new Steven Spielberg series, Burton plays the headstrong, self-appointed leader of a U.S. Marine Corps troop. While the two-hour pilot is in the can and the show has discussed a 13-episode commitment, Semper Fi is considered a midseason replacement and hasn't begun production on the next batch of episodes says a show spokesperson. It is this very

Dear Soaps,
Have any African-American women ever won any daytime Emmys? — B.D.
Dear B.D.,
The answer is yes! Yes! Yes! Angie Baxter Hubbard brought viewers to tears as she mourned the death of husband, Jesse, who was gunned down in the line of duty. For her unforgettable performance, Debbi Morgan (ex-Angie, AMC and The City; ex-Chantal, Generations; ex-Ellen, PC) became the first African-American actress to take home the top prize for Best Supporting Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1989. She shared the title with Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH) who won for her portrayal of Julia on Santa Barbara. Other black actresses have also been up for the prestigious award. The Young and the Restless boasts two nominees. Victoria Rowell has been nominated three times in the Best Supporting Actress category. In 1996, she ran against her fellow co-star Tonya Lee Williams (Olivia). (D

Dear Soaps,
Can you please let me know other than Port Charles and General Hospital what soaps Ron Hale has played in and his roles. — Desertbabe
Dear Desertbabe,
On GH, Mike is in desperate need of fast cash to pay off a hefty gambling debt, but this isn't the first time Hale's portrayed a character facing this very problem. As the villainous Dr. Roger Coleridge on the working class soap, Ryan's Hope, Hale's character stole $6500 to pay off his bad bets. Hale was a part of the original cast when the show premiered in July in 1975, and stayed on the show for its fourteen-year run. His magnetic performances earned him back-to-back Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series Emmys for the 1978-79 and 1979-80 seasons. Before Ryan's Hope, Hale played another doctor, Dr. Jim Abbott, on Love Is a Many Spendored Thing. Hale only had the role for a few months before the show was cancelled in 197

Dear Soaps,
I watch The Bold and the Beautiful pretty regularly, but have missed some shows this summer. I'm totally confused by the Morgan pregnancy storyline. I knew she asked Ridge to father her child and he refused. Did he change his mind, because now Morgan is pregnant? Why is Ridge acting so surprised about the whole thing? Is she trying to keep her pregnancy a secret? Please shed some light on the situation. — Tracey
Dear Tracey,
Ridge initially refused to be the donor for Morgan, who wants desperately to have his baby. Then, Taylor went out of town to visit her ill father, Jack Hamilton. Sensing a window of opportunity, Morgan forged an email from "Taylor" telling Ridge that it was okay if he acted as the donor. Then, a vague phone message from Taylor led Ridge to believe that she had no problem with him fathering the child through a night of lovemaking. Ridge was duped. Neither he nor Taylor had any idea what Morgan was up

Dear Soaps,
Please settle a bet between my niece and I. She says Austin Peck is the original Austin Reed and Lisa Rinna was not the original Billie on Days. I say she is totally mistaken, as I have been watching Days for at least 30 years. — Anxious Auntie
Dear Anxious Auntie,
Looks like your niece owes you a fancy dinner, because you're right on both counts. Peck is not the first actor to play Austin Reed on Days. Introduced as a love interest for Carrie, Patrick Muldoon originated the role in 1992. He stayed for 3 years, then left to pursue a film career, starring in Starship Troopers with fellow soap alum, Casper Van Dien (ex-Ty, OLTL) and Dina Meyer (ex-Lucinda, 90210). Peck took over the role in 1995, and has happily been making it his own ever since. Turning over the cards, Lisa Rinna was indeed the original actress to play Billie Reed, the cocain

Dear Soaps,
Is the actor that plays Philip Kiriakis on Days the same one I see in the Skechers ads in Rolling Stone? — Adummich
Dear Adummich,
Rip out that page and add it to your Days scrapbook! Jay Kenneth Johnson, sporting a much shorter haircut than he does on the show, is currently featured in the footwear company's splashy ad campaign and can be seen in several magazines, including Rolling Stone, Maxim and others. Before he made his daytime debut as Victor, Kate and Vivian's test-tube son, Johnson did a bit of modeling. Shot on location in downtown Los Angeles, the ads feature Johnson in two different poses: one where he is running through a tunnel and another that captures a close-up of Johnson's handsome profile. They've been blown up to near life-size proportions and are being displayed in retail locations where Skechers USA products are sold. You can also make a quick visit to skechers.co

Dear Soaps,
I have been out of the loop concerning Y&R for some time now. Could you
please update me about Katherine's granddaughter Mac? I know that Kay met her in a homeless shelter and discovered that the girl was Brock's long lost daughter. But how did she make that conclusion? Is Mac indeed Kay's granddaughter or is she an impostor? How did Mac end up homeless in the first place? Why does Jill hate her so much? It seems like Billy causes more trouble than Mac does and that Mac is actually a sweet girl. Does Jill hate her simply because she is related to Kay? And where is Brock now? How does Raul fit in the picture? Why he first came on, I thought he was an older friend of Victoria's? Now, he plays a teenage role. — Angela
Dear Angela,
Boy, Angela, as Saturday Night Live's Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say to her favorite letter writer, Mr. Richard Feder of Fort Lee, New Jersey, "You sure ask a lot of questions!" H

Dear Soaps,
When Stephen Nichols played Patch Johnson on Days of Our Lives in the beginning of his stint he was involved with a blond woman. On General Hospital he has been with a pretty blond woman. Is this woman the same one from Days? They look very similar. Thank you for your input. — Mamacane71
Dear Mamacane71,
While Nichols (Stefan) seems destined to get involved with the very pretty Tava Smiley (Chloe, GH), a virtual newcomer to daytime, Nichols did enjoy on-screen romances with another very pretty blond actress, Mary Beth Evans (ex-Katherine, GH; ex-Kayla, Days) on both shows. Back when Nichols wore a patch and played a character by the same name, he got involved with sweet, innocent Kayla. The couple married not once, but twice — the first marriage was declared invalid when Patch's first wife, Marina, returned from the dead. On GH, Stefan and Katherin

Dear Soaps,
I must have been snoozing the week OLTL explained the relationship between Todd and Sam. They seem to have a significant past together that I can't quite figure out. Can you fill me in? — Becca
Dear Becca,
Explaining the intimate relationship between Sam and Todd, Kale Browne and Roger Howarth respectively, just might take a week, but I'll try to give you the concise version. While Sam is not Todd's biological dad, he has stood by Todd like a father figure, even when Todd has tested him beyond the limits of decency. Sam originally brought his legal expertise to Llanview to help Todd legally sort out his marriage-of-convenience to Téa Delgado. Sam quickly realized that Todd truly loved Tea and arranged for the couple to try a temporary reconciliation. Sam defended Todd when he was accused of holding half of Llanview hostage. When Todd recounted the abuse he suffered as a child, Sam realized that T
