Host David Brancaccio examines what he says are “creative new ways” companies use to reduce retiree health benefits. Often they do it with “certain language hidden in the plan document,” says AARP lawyer Mary Ellen Signorelle. And one company even sued a former worker who complained. Retirees have sued as well, but in the example cited, the company has been “dragging out the legal wrangling,” Brancaccio says. Adds a retiree: “They're just trying to wait us out.”
