Exploring the progress of in-vitro fertilization technology since the 1978 birth of Louise Brown, the first child so conceived. It has become, says narrator David Ogden Stiers, “the starting point for treating almost every sort of infertility,” several of which are examined in case studies. The hour also assesses the growth of the fertility industry, ethical issues and prospects for the future, including the ability to determine everything from hair color to predisposition to diseases.
