Season 29, Episode 11 Neanderthals on Trial

Examining the anthropological controversy surrounding Neanderthals, who died out almost 30,000 years ago. "Were they our ancestors, or were they an evolutionary dead end?" asks narrator Joe Morton. The hour catalogs differences between Neanderthals and early humans, and analyzes DNA samples taken from a bone that could have come from a hybrid. "Neanderthals," Morton says, "are pawns in a debate over where to draw the line between ourselves and our prehuman ancestors."
