Season 27, Episode 1 Fall of the Leaning Tower

An examination of why the Leaning Tower of Pisa is leaning, and what engineers are doing to keep it from falling. The report also traces the history of the 180-foot 12th-century landmark, the mostly-marble bell tower for the nearby Place of Miracles cathedral. It was built on silt and the original builders must have suspected that that might not be smart. “The architect is a mystery,” says historian Piero Piertti. “Nobody put his name on the tower.” Hal Linden narrates.
