Season 28, Episode 4 Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center: The Brandenburgs

First Aired: December 14, 2003

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center performs all six of J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. Based on the Italian concerto-grosso style, the concertos were composed separately but assembled in 1721 for Berlin's Margrave of Brandenberg, whose orchestra couldn't perform them. Moreover, the Margrave, who was looking for a music director at the time, hired someone else. Beverly Sills is the host at New York City's Alice Tully Hall.
