Season 1, Episode 22 Not for Ourselves Alone: The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony

The conclusion of “Not for Ourselves Alone,” Burns' two-part 1999 chronicle of Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton's 50-year struggle to gain women's suffrage begins after the Civil War with the women's movement divided over granting the vote to black men. In 1872, Anthony does vote (in Rochester, N.Y.), and is arrested for it. Six years later, a women's suffrage amendment is first introduced in the U.S. Senate. It would reintroduced every year until 1919, when it finally passed. Sally Kellerman narrates.
