Season 6, Episode 3 Afghanistan Unveiled

First Aired: November 16, 2004

“Afghanistan Unveiled” follows young female Afghan videojournalists as they travel around their shattered land, seeking out other women to tell of life and death under the Taliban. Not surprisingly, much of what they hear is grim. “They came like the plague,” a gaunt woman who lives in a cave in Bamyan says of the Taliban, who killed her husband and sons. Another woman describes how Taliban fighters mutilated her son's dead body. And another has a forced-marriage horror story. But their is an upside. The father of one filmmaker, a mullah, refused at first to give his daughter permission to participate, then relented. He wants, he says, “to [open] the way to freedom and democracy in Afghanistan.”
