Most people use your forum as ...

Nip/Tuck
Question: Most people use your forum as a chance to vent about a show that they are dissatisfied with, but I think that this forum would be much better if it were a building ground for buzz about shows that people should be watching. I agree with you that
Lost is the best show on TV now, at least until
24 gets back, but I also feel that
Medium and
Nip/Tuck are right up there. In
Medium's first few episodes,
Patricia Arquette is showing why she won the Emmy; it's definitely the best drama on NBC right now. And I also completely disagree with a
comment from last week about
Nip/Tuck dipping in value. The show is unbelievable in the different emotions and turmoil all these characters have to go through. Like this past episode (Oct. 11) with the old woman trying to jog her Alzheimer's-afflicted husband's memory about who she was, and how nicely that coincided with Sean's attempt to rectify what he did to Matt. I think these are two brilliant shows, and people who read your column should definitely add these to their TV lists.
Answer: I'm especially with you where
Nip/Tuck is concerned these days. Last week's episode was so powerful it prompted a Dispatch (
check it out), and this Tuesday's episode is just as gripping, and contains yet another jaw-dropping (or is that "carving?") shock at the end. This has always been one of my faves for its sheer audacity, but beneath the glossy, twisted surface, it's one of the most psychologically rich and disturbing series I've ever seen. As for
Medium, I agree the show has become a lot more creative this season, and the recent mind-trippy episode in which Allison for a moment imagined herself to be in a mental institution is just the sort of showy performance that gets you invited back on the Emmy list. No question
Medium is underrated and well worth a look for anyone burned out on the barrage of
CSI shows. And if Patricia Arquette was something of a surprise Emmy nominee and a shocker of a winner, there's nothing wrong with rewarding such original work.
