Question: Do you think ABC dropped the ball by airing all seven episodes of Miss Guided in the space of a three-week period instead of giving it a chance to thrive? I really think that if this show had been paired on Mondays with Samantha Who?, it could have been a moderate hit for the network. Both Samantha and Miss Guided are quirky and have currents of dark humor flowing through them. Miss Guided is not one of the best shows I have seen lately, but I actually found myself enjoying Judy Greer's overly optimistic yet still snarky commentary on her job. ABC has done a wonderful job lately of creating and promoting its excellent slate of hour-long dramas such as Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters and Ugly Betty, but when it comes to its 30-minute comedies (Cavemen, Carpoolers, According to Jim), the quality is remarkably lower. I really think Miss Guided had a nice premise and could have been something to build on. It probably would've never have been as popular as many of their dramas, but having at least two comedies that aren't complete shovelware is not a bad place to be. Your thoughts?
Answer: The lost opportunity of pairing Samantha Who? and Miss Guided for at least a week or two has been duly noted, but in retrospect, it does seem like such a no-brainer that you can't help wondering why ABC didn't try it at least once. (Even airing a Samantha repeat in one of Miss Guided's Thursday tryouts might have helped.) Looking ahead to next season, when ABC theoretically has Scrubs on the lineup and could work alongside Samantha as building blocks of an actual "quality" comedy night (something ABC has lacked for years), Miss Guided could have been a utility player in this scenario as well. It would probably never have been a breakout hit, but ABC could do and has done much, much worse. So yes, I agree the network dropped the ball with this one.
