Is the upcoming Wild at Heart ...
Question: Is the upcoming
Wild at Heart on the CW the same show that just finished up on BBC America on Saturday night? Granted, I might be just another put-out
Veronica Mars fan, but I wonder why the CW would bill something as a new show when it just completed a run on American television. Overall, I have to say that I am less than impressed with what the CW is offering next season. Do you think there is hope for it to become a competitive network?
Answer: It's the same premise (a family moves to a South Africa game preserve), but the CW's
Life Is Wild is an Americanized adaptation of the British
Wild at Heart — not the same show. I imagine the CW hopes this will target the same family audience that embraced
7th Heaven for a decade. We'll see. Overall, while I've been awfully hard on the CW since its inception, I've got to say that some of its new shows (
Reaper and
Aliens in America in particular) are among the brightest and most promising of any network in the fall. Will the CW suddenly be competitive with the Big Four? Probably not, but if it can play more successfully to its base, which its new shows should do, without looking like it's running on fumes from the WB and UPN days, that will at the very least look like a step forward.
