As a first-time writer, ...
Question: As a first-time writer, hopefully you'll consider answering my e-mail. I have really enjoyed the NBC show
Journeyman, and I was wondering how it's doing as far as ratings, and what your thoughts are on the show. I thoroughly enjoy the characters, and the relationships have gotten better and better. The stories are interesting and definitely hold my attention, so much so that
Journeyman has become what I guess they call "appointment viewing," much like HBO's
Curb Your Enthusiasm and
Big Love and Sci Fi's
Battlestar Galactica. I just hope it stays on the air and has the chance to mature further. If the ratings aren't good, then please put this show on your "best shows no one's watching" list. I mean, if a show like
Pushing Daisies can be a critical fave ( I watched 10 minutes of the first episode, then turned the channel... horrible doesn't begin to describe it), why can't there be more love shown to
Journeyman?
Answer: Welcome to the party, and I only wish I could share the love. But you're barking up the wrong tree.
Pushing Daisies warms my heart, while in an opinion shared by many of my fellow critics,
Journeyman leaves me cold. I watched the first few episodes and just found it all so arbitrary and blandly uninteresting, like
Quantum Leap but without the fun. It's not doing very well at holding on to
Heroes' lead-in audience and is generating very little buzz that I'm aware of. That is not a good sign for the show's long-term future or for its potential to work out the storytelling kinks. I could be wrong (I often am), but for now, this guy's journey is one I'm not willing to go along on.
