For decades, TV writers and producers have lived in fear of the Moonlighting curse after will-they-or-won't-they detective partners David and Maddie consummated their relationship midway through Season 3. The spark was lost and ratings quickly declined. Producers tried recapturing the magic at the end of Season 4 when Maddie impulsively married a man she hardly knew, but it was too little, too late, and the well-known behind-the-scenes tension between the show's stars didn't help matters.
