Yahoo Will Live-Stream an NFL Game for Free -- But Will Anyone Care?

NFL fans, get ready! The first NFL game to be globally streamed live, free, over the Internet will be available online on Yahoo.com.

The Buffalo Bills-Jacksonville Jaguars game on Oct. 25 in London will be streamed live for anyone with an Internet connection on Yahoo. The game is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time, so mark your calendars now.

"We're thrilled that the NFL has chosen Yahoo for this historic opportunity," said Marissa Mayer, president and CEO of Yahoo. "It marks a significant change in the way users can access this amazing content. The NFL and Yahoo have both long engaged football fans around the world. Our partnership provides the ultimate football experience - with digital availability, designed for the modern fan."

The experiment is a notable one for the league, which has never gone outside of its television partners to broadcast a game. The game will still be traditionally broadcast in the Buffalo and Jacksonville markets. Though bold, the move makes sense as more viewers are watching television on tablets and other devices. It's also a risk, however, since the Bills-Jaguars match-up isn't particularly compelling.

Through this partnership with Yahoo - one of the world's most recognizable digital brands - we are taking another important step in that direction as we continue to closely monitor the rapidly evolving digital media landscape," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.

The NFL first decided to stream this game on a digital platform back in March.
