Portugal, coming off a 4-0 loss to Germany on Monday, worked its way to an early 1-0 lead off of a goal by Nani and a defensive miscue by Jeff Cameron of the U.S. Team USA, which defeated Ghana on Monday 2-1, tied the game in the 64th minute with a strike from Jermaine Jones. The Americans then took the lead with a goal by Clint Dempsey in the 81st minute.

Just when victory seemed certain for the United States, Portugal's Silvestre Valera tied it up with a header off a cross by Cristiano Ronaldo.

A loss would've eliminated Portugal, but all four teams in Group G are still alive. The U.S. will next face Germany on Thursday, while Portugal will face Ghana in final group play. The U.S. would need to at least draw their match with Germany to advance and could also advance with a loss, depending on the number of goals scored.

In Sunday's other matches, Belgium defeated Russia 1-0 and Algeria defeated South Korea 4-2.

Monday's games are: Australia vs. Spain (noon/11c, ESPN2), Netherlands vs. Chile (noon/11c, ESPN), Cameroon vs. Brazil (4/3c, ESPN2) and Croatia vs. Mexico (4/3c, ESPN).
