World Cup: USA Beats Ghana, Will Face Portugal Sunday

The United States defeated Ghana 2-1 in the World Cup Monday, with defender John Brooks scoring in the 86th minute. Clint Dempsey scored the opening goal in the first 30 seconds, making the fastest goal in U.S. World Cup history and the fifth fastest in World Cup history, before Ghana, which had eliminated the U.S. in the last two World Cups, evened the game in the 82nd minute. The Americans' next match is Sunday against Portugal, which lost its first match to Germany on Monday, 4-0.
