The final game went to 10 innings at Comerica Park in Detroit and ended when the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera, who had hit a home run earlier in the game, struck out looking against Giants pitcher Sergio Romo. At the top of the inning, San Francisco second baseman Marco Scutaro singled to bring home designated hitter Ryan Theriot, who had singled earlier in the inning, and pulled the Giants to a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the 10th.
Pablo Sandoval was named World Series MVP.
In the National League Championship Series, the Giants came back from a three games to one deficit against the St. Louis Cardinals to win the series in seven games. Detroit had advanced past the New York Yankees in the American League.
Both teams battled weather conditions Sunday night. The temperature at the start of the game was 44 degrees and rain fell throughout. Mitt Romney's wife, Ann, reportedly attended the game.
