Empire's Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) has gained a lot of wisdom over the course of her very complicated life. Knowledge is power, and she dispenses that wisdom to other characters via fortune cookie-like platitudes, such as "everybody wants to be Beyoncé, but nobody wants to put in the work." Sounds like the sort of sentiment you'd consider after downing a couple of egg rolls, just expressed from Cookie's music-skewed point of view.

TVGuide.com went to New York's Madison Square Park to ask everyday folks if they could tell the difference between a Cookie Lyon bon mot and an actual printed message from a cookie you get at a Chinese restaurant. It's actually really hard! Empire's writers could get jobs crafting fortunes if they ever need a little extra cash.
