A Virginia couple in the running for a reality show is under criminal investigation after crashing the White House state dinner Tuesday night, the New York Times reports.

The Secret Service formally apologized Friday for the lapse in security after uninvited guests Tareq and Michaele Salahi made it into the event. The couple came face-to-face with President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and many others after sneaking past security.

Michaele is currently under consideration for the upcoming Real Housewives of D.C., a Bravo spokesperson confirms to TVGuide.com.

"The cast of The Real Housewives of DC has not been finalized," Bravo said in a statement. "Michaele Salahi is under consideration as a cast member, and Half Yard Productions were filming the Salahis on that day. The producers were filming them preparing for the event and were not on White House grounds." In addition, Bravo told the Times that producers were under the impression per the Salahis that they had been invited to the dinner.

Although Bravo says producers were not on White House grounds, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, a guest at Tuesday's dinner, told NBC he saw cameras with the couple near the East Gate of the White House. Williams remembered seeing the couple and the cameras after their car was turned away at the first security checkpoint.

"After their vehicle was turned away, they hopped out," Williams said. "What attracted our attention was there was at least one camera trailing them. And a makeup woman got out and fixed the woman's hair and then started powdering the man's forehead."

The couple first came under fire after pictures of posting pictures of themselves at the dinner on their Facebook accounts. Tareq is heir to a Virginia winery and a co-founder of the Land Rover America's Polo Cup, according to CBS News.

Bravo had no further information about the incident. A rep for the couple refused to comment. The Salahis are now scheduled to appear on Larry King Live Monday.
