What to Stream the Weekend of June 14

Just thinking about all the chores you should be doing over the weekend is mind numbing. No one tells you that part of being an adult is facing down an endless to-do list. 1. Euphoria

Euphoria is not for the faint of heart. Starring Zendaya as Rue, a high schooler junior returning home after a stint in rehab, the HBO show takes a deep dive into how difficult it is to navigate the world as a teenager today. With instant gratification -- from sex to drugs to internet fame -- at their fingertips, Rue and her her friends struggle to feel something real and medicate themselves after they try and fail. Without such a compelling cast Euphoria could have quickly become prurient and exploitative, but the way the actors steadily weave together these relationships turns it into a show about Gen Z with something smart to say.

2. Trinkets

Trinkets is the latest work of Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith, the screenwriter of iconic movies such as 10 Things I Hate About You and Legally Blonde. Adapted from a YA novel of the same name that Smith wrote, the Netflix show is about three drastically different teenage girls who have exactly one thing in common: They're all in Shoplifters Anonymous. What follows is a story about unexpected connections that crescendos into a rousing battle cry for the strength found in female friendships. A must see if you're a fan of shows like Sex Education.

3. Los Espookys

Los Espookys will undoubtedly become one of the few non-English language shows that American viewers flock to. Created by Fred Armisen after discovering a thriving goth youth culture on a recent trip to Mexico City, the HBO show is a surreal blend of fantastical and mundane, much in the style of his other hits, Portlandia and Documentary Now! Following a group of good-hearted, goth obsessed twentysomethings who stage fake horror events for a living, Los Espookys is a wild, whimsical show that's guaranteed to expand your definition of Latinx programming.
