WGN America has ordered a second season of the witchy drama a mere three episodes into the freshman series' run, the network announced Monday. Season 2 will begin production later this year for a scheduled 2015 premiere. Salem isWGN America's first original scripted series and the first to receive a renewal.

Our favorite TV small towns

"At WGN America, we are committed to delivering compelling, brand-defining programming rich with fascinating characters and Salem has done just that," WGN America president Matt Cherniss said in a statement. "Brannon Braga, Adam Simon, the talented cast and our great partners at Fox 21 have opened up an intriguing world that has captivated viewers. We look forward to bringing more great storytelling, scares and surprises to viewers as the saga unfolds." Cherniss did not mention if more amphibians would be shoved down townsfolk's throats.

Salem, starring Janet MontgomeryShane West, and Seth Gabel, re-imagines the 17th century witch trials in Massachusetts. Except in this version of the story, the accused witches really did cast spells and curses on the people of Salem. It would be a much more boring series if they didn't, right?

WGN America's second original series Manhattan, a period piece set against the backdrop of the nuclear era, premieresin July.

Salem airs Sunday nights at 10/9c on WGN America. Watch a trailer for the series here.
