The Walking Dead Announces Season 5 Premiere, Releases New Trailer

AMC has set the fifth season premiere date for The Walking Dead. Robert Kirkman's zombie drama will return for it is fifth season on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 9/8c, it was announced at Comic-Con on Friday.   The fifth season will pick up with the group still at Terminus, though the producers still would not confirm that the Termites are the ruthless cannibals of the comics. But it won't be long before we find out! "We're going to see the story of Terminus," Kirkman told the crowd. "We're going to see how it happened." West) that they need to go to Washington, D.C. so Eugene (Josh McDermitt) can provide the right people with the cure. On the plus side, Beth (Emily Kinney) was not on that BBQ! Sadly, she seems to be in a juvenile correction center with a very violent corrections officer.

While the group is heading to D.C. — seemingly with Gareth in tow  — much of the fifth season will explore just how far gone the group is after doing anything and everything to survive over the last few seasons. "You can't come back from the things that you've done, you have to live with them," showrunner Scott Gimple said. "This season is going to define these characters."

Kirkman, who noted that this season is going to be very close to the story in the comics, added: "They're all very ready to do what they need to do to survive." Speaking of the comics, executive producer David Alpertconfirmed that The Wire's Seth Gilliam is playing Father Gabriel Stokes.
