[Warning: The following story reveals the winner of The Voice's fifth season. Read at your own risk!]
Adam Levine returned to victory on Tuesday's Season 5 finale of The Voice more than two years after winning the first season of the hit singing competition series when Team Adam finalist Tessanne Chin was named the winner. The 28-year-old from Kingston, Jamaica broke into tears right before going right into a performance of an original song written by The Voice's new-house music producer and songwriter, Ryan Tedder.
Team Christina Aguilera's finalist, 16-year-old Jacquie Lee from Colts Neck, N.J., came in second. Team Adam's other finalist, 30-year-old Will Champlin from Reseda, Calif., came in third.
Adam's win ended Blake Shelton's three-season winning streak. Neither Shelton nor Cee Lo Green had a horse in the finale race after their last acts were eliminated in earlier weeks. (But maybe Shelton still won because he got to "perform" that awesome Footloose dance?)
But don't worry! The other two finalists did not walk away empty-handed. All three finalists were awarded brand-new Kia cars during the two-hour season finale. (Don't fret, Jacquie, you'll be old enough to get your license before you know it!)
The show opened with finalists Tessanne, Will, and Jacquie performing "Tonight Is the Night," before the show broke off into smaller group performances. Among the celebrities performing in the finale were Ne-Yo, One Republic, Paramore, Celine Dion, and Lady GaGa, who welcomed a surprise guest midway through her new single "Do What U Want" — none other than Aguilera, who came out in a matching gold and glittery dress and with a matching glass of champagne, which the two drank through interlocked arms after they finished the song, natch. Aguilera revealed afterwards that the two had never met before performing together on The Voice Tuesday night, but they embraced in a heartfelt hug on stage.
Do you think the right person won The Voice? Will you miss Christina and Cee Lo next season? Season 6 of The Voice premieres on Monday, Feb. 24 at 8/7c on NBC.
