The Veronica Mars revival will officially be missing a notable Neptune resident. Creator Rob Thomas confirmed to TV Guide that Tina Majorino, who played one of Veronica's (Kristen Bell) best friends, Mac, will not appear in the eight-episode Hulu revival.

"We would have loved to have Tina Majorino," Thomas revealed at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas over the weekend. "She had other commitments. That was a shame. We adore her. We would have loved to have had her in it."

While Veronica will be missing her computer-savvy bestie, who the movie showed to have quit her job at Kane Software to join Mars Investigations, the new season will feature a ton of fun cameos for fans of the original series. During a panel promoting the upcoming season at ATX on Saturday, Thomas announced that Adam Rose, who played Mac's ex, Max; Julie Gonzalo, who played Logan's (Jason Dohring) ex, Parker; James Jordan, who played the murderous T.A., Tim Foyle; and Ryan Devlin, who played the college campus serial rapist, Mercer, will all make appearances in the new season.

Hulu's Veronica Mars Revival Might Not Be the End of the Show

When speaking with TV Guide, Thomas made it clear that the slew of returning faces doesn't mean that the upcoming episodes will focus on reminiscing about the past. This time around, Thomas decided to keep everything centered around the new mystery, which will find Veronica investigating a series of bombings in Neptune over spring break.

"There was a lot of nostalgia in the movie. And in these eight episodes, I didn't want it to be about nostalgia," he said. "I want it to be really geared toward the mystery in this. And happily, a few old cast members fit nicely into that, but we didn't chase any guest appearances that didn't fit real well with the story."

Although it's a bummer that Mac will be MIA for this trip to Neptune, Thomas is hoping to continue Veronica Mars beyond these eight episodes, which means we might still get to see the return of the Mac down the line.

The Veronica Mars revival will release all episodes on Friday, July 26 on Hulu. Sign up for Hulu here.
