12 Times Veep's Selina Meyer Was Way Better Than Pence or Kaine

Tuesday's Vice Presidential debate between Republican Mike Pence and Democrat Tim Kaine was considerably more...how do we put it? grounded than the Presidential debate, with both candidates making valid points about the state of the American economy, immigration and lots of other serious government stuff you expect to hear when a reality show host isn't on stage. Still, in an election where many Americans feel underwhelmed by either option at the head of a party, almost nothing they said would cure the nation's election fatigue.

Pundits will spend lots of hours for the rest of the week arguing about who won but allow us to float another option for someone who'd be awesome at the job: Selina Meyer, the perennially up-the-creek without a paddle V.P. (turned President) on Veep, HBO's long-running, stellar and breath-stealingly funny sitcom. Played by the fantastic Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Selina is blunt, kind-hearted, opportunistic, shallow, driven and piercingly smart -- a combination that keeps her in constant trouble in the White House...and pretty much everywhere else she goes. We can't think of anyone else we'd rather see on the stage debating what's best for our land -- especially since she's kind of out of a job at the moment. Here are 12 reasons why Selina Meyer totally should be in the running for Veep.
1. When she demonstrated her keen eye for detail and genuine concern for those in her inner circle.
2. When she reminded folks that she doesn't stall but gets right to the point.
3. When she showed how masterfully she can made a salad of a pop culture reference, political jargon and a pun.
4. When she proved she'd never let silly emotions get in the way of doing what had to be done for the greater good.
5. That time she schooled her staffers on the importance of presentation and personal sacrifice.
6. That momentous occasion she offered a poetic, nuanced understanding of the intersection of criminal justice and race in America.
7. When she one-upped Tim Kaine's Spanish speaking with her own bilingual expertise.
8. Literally every time she illustrated up-to-the-minute cultural awareness.
9. When she proved that, for the first time in American history, someone's ready to openly address sexism in society.
10. That time she made sure her foes knew that, um, unlike some other campaign *cough * she knows how to work the media.
11. When she reassured everyone she's not going to start acting bizarre, which is more than we can say for anyone in this election, right?
12. And when, above all, she knew who was in charge and never hesitated to remind anybody that didn't recognize.
