True Blood just won't bite the dust. After the HBO show wraps up its final season this summer, the drama may live on as a musical.

"This was something that I pitched to HBO and [creator] Alan Ball," the series' composerNathan Barr told The Associated Press.

TV's most outrageous deaths

According to Barr, the musical will keep the focus on Sookie Stackhouse, but be inspired more by the show's earlier seasons as opposed to the no-holds-barred drama True Bloodhas become. "I think we're really going to try to return to the roots of the show," Barr explained.

Star Stephen Moyer, who appeared in NBC's live Sound of Music, has already helped Barr put together some samples of the musical to present to HBO and Ball. Barr hopes to present a workshop version of the musical in a year's time, but says calling the production "Broadway bound" at this stage is premature.

"There's no guarantees," the composer said. "But I think the direction we're heading in is really exciting."
