Is it possible that Comedy Central didn't properly vet Trevor Noah before naming him as Jon Stewart's successor on The Daily Show?

The South African comedian was officially announced as the new host of The Daily ShowMonday, but a quick perusal of his Twitter feed unearths some eyebrow-raising "jokes" about women and Jewish people that have many viewers calling for Comedy Central to fire him. Check out a few below:

9 things to know about new Daily Showhost Trevor Noah

The tweets go back several years, before Noah was hired as a contributor for The Daily Show last year. But, as we all know, anything on the Internet lives forever.

Comedy Central, meanwhile, is standing by its man and brushing off any allegations that Noah harbors anti-Semitic or misogynistic views. "Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included," the network said in a statement Tuesday. "To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central."

On Tuesday evening, Noah responded on Twitter, echoing the sentiments of Comedy Central.

What do you think of Noah's previous tweets? And should Comedy Central reconsider its decision to hire him?
