The Walmart truck driver accused of causing the fatal New Jersey Turnpike accident that left Tracy Morgan in critical condition has pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter and assault, NBC News reports.

Kevin Roper was present at his arraignment Wednesday in Middlesex County, N.J., but he did not speak. He was released on $50,000 bail, which he posted after his arrest.

In court documents, Roper was accused of driving his big rig "recklessly" after staying awake for more than 24 hours straight.

The crash occurred early Saturday morning when the Walmart truck Roper was driving slammed into a limo bus carrying Morgan and several others — including Morgan's writing partner James McNair, who was killed. Morgan suffered several broken bones and has remained in critical condition, as have two other victims. A Walmart spokesman said the retailer believes Roper "was operating within the federal hours of service regulations" when the six-car pileup occurred.

On Tuesday, FX released a statement saying that Morgan's upcoming FXX sitcom "will be waiting for him" until he fully recovers. The show was set to begin production in August.
