They may only be the second-most newsworthy basketball team on their campus, but Jim Calhoun's Connecticut Huskies are still a formidable bunch as the Big East season gets underway tonight at rock-solid Pittsburgh. High-scoring junior guard Kemba Walker headlines the Huskies, but a seemingly endless supply of largely untested big men are available to Calhoun to bang with Gary McGhee and the Panthers' frontline. Alex Oriakhi heads the list, along with a pair of 7-footers in Charles Okwandu and the recently added Enosch Wolf. — Roger Leister

Looking to capitalize on a dome-field advantage the way the Saints and Colts did last season, the largely-unheralded Atlanta Falcons (12-2) host division-rival New Orleans (10-4) with a chance to secure the NFC's No. 1 playoff seed and an indoor road to Super Bowl XLV in Texas. Personifying the team's understated excellence this season is QB Matt Ryan, who is a mere 19-1 in starts at the Georgia Dome and helped engineer a 27-24 road win over the Saints way back in Week 3. In that contest, Saints kicker Garrett Hartley missed a 29-yard overtime field-goal attempt by inches to the left, which may be all that separated this Monday-night finale from being a showdown between 11-3 teams. — Roger Leister
