ESPN's wonderfully diverse 30th anniversary documentary series takes its first spin around NASCAR with Tim Richmond: To the Limit, a rarely-told story of the flashy 1980s driver (1955-1989). Before the days of Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, drivers from outside the Southeast were real outsiders on the NASCAR circuit, so Richmond's fearless ways and exuberant celebration of success (seven Cup Series wins in 1986) were never fully embraced. He mysteriously dropped out of action in 1987, and it wasn't reported until much later that he had contracted AIDS. Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Rory Karpf revisits Richmond's largely forgotten career. — Roger Leister
