For the last few weeks, JJ's super brain has been a secret to his parents, and mostly used for academic pursuits (or learning Hebrew to impress a girl). But can it help him succeed at sports? Tonight he goes out for the football team by using the X's and O's as variables in math equations, but the undersized JJ finds out the hard way that the game is more than just physics: It's physical. Meanwhile, a case of mistaken identity makes Jim look like the culprit of a crime he's trying to prevent. — Joe Friedrich

Millionaire Matchmaker
9/8c Bravo
The Beatles insightfully maintained that money could never buy love. Sage wisdom, but don't tell it to matchmaking maven Patti Stanger, who continues to sling Cupid's arrows for her millionaire clients in a new season of her real-world series. In this fourth arc, Stanger takes a chomp out of the Big Apple, extending her love-connection business from Los Angeles to New York City. It'll be a New York state of mind when she tries to find dates and mates for a sports enthusiast and a twentysomething heiress with a mighty attitude. — Dean Maurer
Parenthood
10/9c NBC
The Bravemans celebrate Halloween, with Zeek taking charge of the festivities. But the patriarch's enthusiasm for the holiday is lost on Haddie, Amber and Drew, much to his chagrin. Elsewhere, Sarah has her own scary situation to confront as she deals with the aftermath of her kiss with Gordon, and Julia has a dilemma on her hands when Sydney chooses a costume that's in conflict with her beliefs. — Brie Hearn
30 for 30
8/7c ESPN
ESPN's wonderfully diverse 30th anniversary documentary series takes its first spin around NASCAR with Tim Richmond: To the Limit, a rarely-told story of the flashy 1980s driver (1955-1989). Before the days of Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, drivers from outside the Southeast were real outsiders on the NASCAR circuit, so Richmond's fearless ways and exuberant celebration of success (seven Cup Series wins in 1986) were never fully embraced. He mysteriously dropped out of action in 1987, and it wasn't reported until much later that he had contracted AIDS. Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Rory Karpf revisits Richmond's largely forgotten career. — Roger Leister
Scream 2010
9/8c Spike
Need something to scream about? No? OK, you can leave the screaming to the fans gathered at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, where the fifth annual awards show saluting achievements in escapism — horror, sci-fi and fantasy — unfolds with peeks at upcoming films such as Scream 4 and The Rite, and a special Back to the Future reunion with stars Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson and Elisabeth Shue. — Michael Chant
Frontline
9/8c PBS
The documentary series opens its 29th season with the examination of the disturbing case of Cameron Todd Willingham, a Texas man who was executed in 2004 for the 1991 deaths-by-arson of his three young daughters. The problem? He may have been innocent. The report details the original evidence used to convict him, includes new science that questions whether the fire was the result of arson, and explores the implications of his execution. — Jeff Gemmill
Mad Mel: The Rise and Fall of a Hollywood Icon
9/8c Bio
By now, most followers of the entertainment world have heard or heard about Mel Gibson's infamous 2010 phone messages to his former girlfriend. This documentary chronicles the journey to this low point for the popular actor and Oscar-winning director. Included are comments from fellow actors and directors, as well as from agents and managers. Also featured are the views of psychologists, addiction experts and law-enforcement personnel. — Bill Ecklund
