British actor-comedian Steve Coogan (Hamlet 2) hosts the 24th annual gala celebrating independent films. Known as the "Oscars for indies," the uncensored, party-like ceremony is broadcast live from a tent on the beach in Santa Monica, Cal. Ballast, Frozen River, Rachel Getting Married, Wendy and Lucy and The Wrestler are Best Feature contenders. Acting nominees include Anne Hathaway, Javier Bardem, Michelle Williams, Sean Penn and Debra Winger. —Michael Scheinfeld

John Rich likes to keep the contestants guessing in this series, and this week is no exception. He pulls the country wannabes out of Nashville and takes them to one of the world's biggest cities, where they'll perform aboard an aircraft carrier. A moving 2009 war film with hardly any scenes of on-screen violence, Ross Katz's directorial debut, a Grand Jury Prize nominee at Sundance, focuses solely on the human cost of conflict, particularly its effect on a community when a casualty comes home. Kevin Bacon gives an Emmy-worthy performance as Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, the coscreenwriter and retired marine who based the script on his journals, who volunteers to escort the body of a marine, killed in Iraq in 2004, to his family in Wyoming. —Joe Friedrich
Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin

Wildlife enthusiast Jeff Corwin shifts gears to focus on food and travel in this hourlong special that chronicles his journey to Thailand. He dives right into the local culture and cuisine by dining on a variety of creatures he's more accustomed to studying than eating, including locusts, blood cockles and wasp larvae. Aisha Tyler Is Lit: Live at the Fillmore

Aisha Tyler is a triple-threat entertainer as an actor, writer and comic, and tonight it's the latter that takes center stage in this stand-up special, taped at the Fillmore in her hometown of San Francisco.
