Magnum P.I. star Tom Selleck is in talks to play the lead role in an untilted CBS cop drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The pilot, formerly known as Reagan's Law, comes from Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green and revolves around a family of New York cops. Selleck will play Michael, the NYPD chief of police who lives with his father (Len Cariou), a former cop now working for the mayor's office.

Selleck, 65, would also play father to Donnie Wahlberg, who has signed to play Michael's detective son, Brian.

Selleck won an Emmy for his role on CBS' Magnum, P.I., whichran from 1980 to 1988 and. Since then, he has held recurring roles on Friends, Boston Legal and Las Vegas and has also starred in CBS' series of Jesse Stone TV movies, the sixth of which will air later this year.
