"Something inside of me changed," Arnold told the magazine about the impact of his son's birth. "I knew I needed to live as long as I could."
Arnold, 54, revealed he weighed as much as 287 pounds in recent years when he struggled with depression and overeating. "There was a lot of shame," Arnold said. "One time I had a tailor come over and sew the weights into my suits — this is what you wear when you are 210, 220, 240, 300. That saved me the time of going into my closet and getting so upset and frustrated."
However, that changed when he and his wife, Ashley, welcomed their son after years of infertility struggles. Soon thereafter, Arnold went from eating six-egg omelets, extra-large meat pizzas and drinking 15 sodas a day to giving up cake and bread altogether.
The actor and comic also started doing cardio, circuit-training and abdominal workouts. "I have tons more energy to play with my son," he said.
