As Falling Skies prepares to end its run next year, TNT is turning again to Steven Spielberg and his Amblin Television shingle for another epic action/adventure project. The cable network has ordered the Amblin pilot Lumen, which centers on a family locked in another world.
Also on board: Author James Frey (A Million Little Pieces) and his Full Fathom Five production company.
Lumen, written by Chris Black (Mad Men, Desperate Housewives), kicks off with the disappearance of the author behind a series of best-selling fantasy books (a la Harry Potter). A family of four then stumbles into an alternate world, where they discover those books actually chronicled the reality of that universe. As they try to make their way back home, the family finds themselves stuck in the middle of a war between magical forces.
Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger, Jumanji) has signed on to direct the pilot. Johnston, Black and Frey will executive produce with Todd Cohen (Ugly Betty) and Amblin TV co-presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. TNT Original Productions and ABC Signature Studios are producing with Amblin and Full Fathom Five.
