Season 2 of The Sinner is coming sooner than expected. We've known that it would arrive sometime in August, but now we know the second installment of the series kicks off right when the month begins — August 1.

The Sinner Season 2 will follow Det. Henry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) as he returns to his hometown in upstate New York to "assess an unsettling and heart wrenching crime" in which an 11-year old boy murdered his parents. Carrie Coon will stand in the way of Harry's pursuit of the truth as Vera, "a complicated and enigmatic part of this haunting puzzle." This is all very serious, dark, mysterious stuff.

The series was 2017's No. 1 cable show and starred Jessica Biel (who remains an executive producer of Season 2) as Cora, a disturbed woman who kills a seemingly random man with no provocation. As the season unwound, viewers discovered their dark connection and why Cora was driven to such a violent crime.

The surprise hit earned USA two Golden Globe nominations, including a Best Actress nod for Biel.

Season 2 of The Sinner kicks off Aug. 1 at 10/9c on USA.
