Kevin Smith will direct an episode of The Goldbergs, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

No other details were released, but the episode will film early next year and has an unspecified airdate as of now.

This is, frankly, a match made in heaven for two of the geekiest — and proudly — people alive. The gig will reunite the Jay and Silent Bob creator with The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg, who co-wrote the 2009 film Fanboys, about Star Wars fanatics, in which Smith had a cameo. Goldberg was also a supervising producer on the documentary The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?, in which Smith appeared as himself.

ABC is developing a Goldbergs spin-off set in the 1990s

The Goldbergs already tackled the release of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi in Season 1, but we can only presume Smith will helm something equally as nerdy.

Smith's TV directing credits include Reaper, The Flash and an episode of Supergirl slated to air next year.

The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC.
