The Blacklist will close out Season 6 the only way The Blacklist knows how -- with unpredictable twists, explosive action, and Red Reddington (James Spader) saying some stuff that makes you go "lol, what?" And TV Guide got on the phone with executive producers Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath to preview the exciting episode.

"Robert Diaz" will pick up with Reddington and Liz Keen (Megan Boone) working to free the rest of the Task Force from the clutches of corrupt presidential advisor Anna McMahon (Jennifer Ferrin), who's had them arrested to keep them from thwarting President Diaz's (Benito Martinez) bizarre plot to assassinate himself.

"I think what we have coming up in tonight's episode is the resolution to a season-long conspiracy," Bokenkamp said. "This all started with our first episode of the season, with a bombing at the U.N. and a cover-up, and it has led us to this episode, where we are presented with the question of 'why would the president of the United States be part of and support a plot to assassinate the president of the United States?' So we've got great stakes. Our Task Force has been arrested, Anna McMahon is in charge, it's a big episode, it's a lot of fun, and I think it ultimately has a really surprising and satisfying answer."

"While it has a surprising and satisfying answer to that story, it also, I think, has a surprising and very open-ended answer -- or it offers two surprising and very open-ended questions in the personal lives of our characters," added Eisendrath. "So I think the episode both closes off the story of the president and the assassination attempt, and opens up stories about our characters going into Season 7."

Those questions mainly have to do with the continued enigma that is Raymond Reddington, with whom nothing is ever exactly as it seems. Just when you think you know his story, something comes up that will make you question the whole thing.

The Blacklist's Season 6 finale airs Friday, May 17 at 8/7c on NBC.
