The Blacklist's Ryan Eggold: Tom's "Life Is Going to Change Dramatically"

How is the show going to tee up Redemption?

We're barely a week into Season 4 of The Blacklist, but the show is barreling towards an end point of sorts -- or at least a major turning point. Early next year, the spin-off The Blacklist: Redemption is scheduled to premiere, and will focus on Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) being recruited to work for a black ops spy agency.

So, for those of you keeping track at home, something is going to happen in the next 10(?) or so episodes that's going to bring us from Point A to Point B and pull Tom away from Liz (Megan Boone) and Agnes (assuming he eventually reunites with them, which is up in the air after the Season 4 premiere). What could it be?

For now, not even Eggold and the creators know. Executive producer Jon Bokenkamp recently told TVGuide.com that those episodes haven't been written yet, but that Tom will have to make an "emotional decision ... that's going to take him off and send him into that other world."

Blacklist boss answers our burning questions about Season 4

Eggold tells TVGuide.com that The Blacklist: Redemption will be more of a spy/thriller show than a mythology-heavy drama like The Blacklist is. And there's certainly potential for crossover episodes, with Liz making cameos on Redemption and Tom being seen on The Blacklist. But in the meantime, something's going to cause a major shakeup in their relationship for Tom to veer down this path.

"His life's going to change dramatically," Eggold says. "What is at stake for their relationship is really their daughter, and so I think that is becoming clear for them. The question is now, can they be parents? Can they bring a person into this chaotic, criminal world that they have?"
