A Syrian television journalist was killed on Monday, The Associated Press reports.
Yara Abbas, a reporter for the pro-government Al-Ikhbariya news channel, was killed near Dabaa military base, after rebels attacked the car carrying her and her TV crew. A cameraman and his assistant were also wounded.
Unfortunately, what happened to Abbas was not a fluke. According to Amnesty International, Syria's government and a few rebels are specifically targeting journalists.
Abbas was on site to cover the increasingly violent fighting around Qusair, a western town not far from Dabaa, which is seen as a crucial stronghold to both the rebels and the government forces backed by Hezbollah.
