Taylor Swift is taking home yet another accolade: the best-selling album of 2009.
Swift's sophomore effort, Fearless, won the title after a close battle with Susan Boyle and her debut album, I Dreamed a Dream. Swift sold 3.2 million copies in 2009, with Internet sensation-turned-chart topper Boyle following close behind with 3.1 million discs sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
After spending six straight weeks atop the Billboard 200, Boyle did earn the title of 2009's top-selling album released last year, as Swift's Fearless was released in November 2008. Boyle also sold the most physical CDs in 2009, with 3 million hard copies purchased.
Not surprisingly, the top-selling album of 2009 from a male vocalist came from the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Jackson's greatest-hits compilation, Number Ones, came in third for the year. Jackson, whose death shocked the world in June, also was the biggest-selling albums artist of the year, thanks to sales of albums such as Thriller, This Is It and The Essential Michael Jackson. In total, Jackson sold 8.2 million copies of his various records in 2009.
