When Felicia Day returns to Supernatural Wednesday (9/8c on The CW), the actress will be in her element. "Pac Man Fever" will find her character, Charlie, and Dean (Jensen Ackles) trapped in a video game dream world, a perfect place for Day, who's both a real-life gamer and plays one in her webseries The Guild. "I was very excited to read the script," Day tells TVGuide.com. "But the video game world is an interesting one in that it hits Charlie in a personal way."

During Day's first two appearances on The CW series (In Season 7's "The Girl with The Dungeons and Dragon Tattoo" and Season 8's "LARP and the Real Girl"), Charlie has been all sass, strength and sarcasm. But as previously reported, in this episode we'll get to explore a bit more of Charlie's soft underbelly. As Dean instructs Charlie in the ways of a hunter, he begins to suspect that she's hiding a potentially dangerous secret.
"It's something that's deeply personal for her and definitely reveals some of the mystery in her life," Day says. "We definitely learn a lot about Charlie's backstory in this episode and it adds layers and layers to a character who is already really nuanced."
Though showrunner Jeremy Carver called the episode "rather emotional," Day also makes it sound like a great time! "There's a scene with some shooting involved, which was so much fun. Also, suiting up to be a hunter," Day says, referencing the cheap pantsuit Charlie wears to match Dean's own on-the-job uniform. And don't expect Charlie to be any less cheeky simply because she's not in her comfort zone. "She's really a very eager, bright girl and I love the way she can kind of floor Dean in a second," Day says. "Even though she's kind of out of her element, she's so incredibly confident of some things."
Luckily for us, the video game world is the perfect arena for Charlie to show off that self-assurance. "One area that video games sometimes do really, really well for women is that they have really strong lead characters and Charlie, in that world, feels very much [like] Lara Croft," Day said. (Ironically, Day had just finished the Tomb Raider game before shooting began.)

Gamers will also love the subtle nods to iconic video game characters incorporated throughout the episode, such as the eye patch Charlie is spotted wearing in the preview. "If you're a gamer, especially when you're creating a character, there's always a facial tattoo and an eye patch option to make your character with and I love the fact that Robbie Thompson wrote in that detail," Day says. Unfortunately for anyone with a Cyclops fetish, Day says she removes the eye patch fairly quickly.
Though she wouldn't say what exactly Charlie and Dean were hunting, Day does promise that Charlie will face the threat head on. "In the last two episodes she's been in, she's inadvertently been drawn into this world, it's not something she's ever sought out, so in this one I love the fact that she's more proactive," Day says. "There's something that's bringing her into this hidden world around her and the fact that she isn't going to necessarily be a victim to it and is going to be proactive. ... I think is really cool."
