A Grey's Anatomy Producer Is Bringing Street Fighter to TV

Television and film producer Mark Gordon is teaming up with Entertainment One to adapt the iconic video game franchise Street Fighter into a television series, Deadline reports.

The new show will be inspired by the World Warrior arc as detailed in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, the 1991 follow-up to the original Street Fighter game. Rather than focusing on eight world fighters -- not every world needs to be as extensive as Game of Thrones, after all -- the adaption will focus on four warriors who must team up to take down M. Bison, the criminal leader of a shady global organization.

Hailing from different backgrounds, Ryu, Ken, Guile and Chun-Li come together for Bison's World Warrior Tournament which looks to find the world's strongest competitor. The intense journey will put their skills to the ultimate test until one emerges victorious as the World Warrior.

The series will be executive produced by Joey Ansah, Jacqueline Quella and Mark Wooding, who previously adapted the game into a live-action web series for YouTube called Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist.

Gordon is no stranger to action and drama, having produced high-octane shows like Criminal Minds, Designated Survivor and Grey's Anatomy, along with blockbuster films like Speed 2: Cruise Control, the end-of-the-world disaster flick2012, and the upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair.

No network is currently attached, as the project is still in early development.

Previous Street Fighter adaptations include the 1994 movie of the same name starring action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme, and 2009's Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li with Smallville's Kristin Kreuk.
