No one was bigger in the '80s in film and books, respectively, than Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. Their respective brands of grand supernatural storytelling made for some of the most enduring works of pop culture of the decade. Now, their legacies of influence seem to be coming together in Stranger Things, an '80-set Netflix thriller series that premieres July 15 and just got its first trailer, which can be seen above.

Stranger Things tells the story of the search for a boy who vanished into thin air from Hawkins, Ind. Winona Ryder stars as the boy's mother. It's her first time starring on a TV series. The series is created, written and directed by Matt and Ross Duffer, young filmmakers whose biggest credits before Stranger Things were a couple of episodes of Wayward Pines.

The eight-episode first season of Stranger Things hits Netflix Friday, July 15.
