Stephen Moyer is no stranger to fake blood, which will likely serve him well in his next gig. The former True Blood star has been cast in Kurt Sutter's (Sons of Anarchy) new FX drama The Bastard Executioner.

The period drama "tells the story of a warrior knight in King Edward I's charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all."

Soooo, it's Sons of Anarchy but in period costume? I can dig it.

A full cast list with character descriptions can be found below:

Lee Jones: An Australian theater actor, Jones will play lead Wilkin Brattle. A former knight in King Edward's army, Wilkin is described as being "tall, dark, imposing." He is emotionally deep, but spiritually tortured and trying to live a simple life.

Stephen Moyer: The True Blood star will portray Milus Corbett, a "street smart and noble savvy." Corbett was one of Ventris' marshals in the army and now serves as his Chamberlain, Chancellor and Justiciar. He's even a friend and drinking mate sometimes.

Katey Sagal: Sons of Anarchy's former matriarch will star as Annora of the Alders, a beautiful and mystical woman who offers predictions, cures and potions.

Flora Spencer-Longhurst: As cunning as she is kind and beautiful, Baroness Lowry 'Love' Aberffraw Ventris comes from a wealthy Welsh family. She married Ventris at 17 to protect her family's land, but finds that her noble duties are constantly in conflict with her Welsh pride.

Kurt Sutter: Possibly the spiritual ancestor to his Sons character Otto, Sutter will star as The Dark Mute, the mate and guardian of Annora who speaks rarely. No one has ever seen his face.

The best and worst of the Oscars

Sam Spruell: The Hurt Locker star will appear as Toran Prichard. Wilkin's best friend, Toran was once a fierce and tenacious archer under Madog Llywelyn in the last major Welsh rebellion but traded in his bow for the hoe.

Darren Evans: Fresh off Galavant, Evans will play Ash y Goedwig, a wiry and smart orphan "of the woods" and friend of Wilkin.

Danny Sapani: Penny Dreadful's Sapani has been cast as Berber the Moor. Described as being a "large, educated man," Berber is a converted Muslim and farmer. He's also a friend of Wilkin.

Timothy V. Murphy: The former Sons of Anarchy guest star will reunite with Sutter for the role of Father Ruskin. A former soldier, Ruskin left the army for the seminary and is described as being brawny and gentle. The only problem is that he bottles up his fury.

Sarah White: Isabel Kiffin is Lady Love's handmaiden and trusted confidant. She's described as being tall, slight, awkward and innocent.

Sarah Sweeny: Hardened by abuse, Jessamy Maddox is the executioner's wife.

Matthew Rhys: The Americans star will guest-star as Gruffudd y Blaidd, a smart and fearless leader of the Welsh rebels, Byth Encil. (This role will not affect his starring status on the FX's The Americans).

The Bastard Executioner will premiere this fall on FX. What do you think of the cast? Will you watch?
